Three Summer Theater Camps for Kids

North Country Community Theatre’s Educational Theater Company has partnered with the Vermont Institute of Natural Sciences to produce a week long summer camp:

The Wild Stage* (for children entering grades 2 to 5 in the fall)

Inspired by the theatrics of Mother Nature herself, The Wild Stagewill bring out your child’s inner thespian. Perfect for introverts and extroverts alike, this session will allow your child to develop confidence, coordination and self-expression, while gaining knowledge and inspiration from the woods and wetlands of Vermont. Guided by the experienced team at North Country Community Theatre, campers will discover the joy and wonder of theater as they act out scenes, develop skits and design costumes and sets. We will even have a special performance by Opera North! On the final day of camp, everyone is invited to enjoy an original presentation wherein campers will show off their creative talents, theatrical skills, and new found knowledge of the natural world.

Other Upper Valley Opportunities:

The Youth Shakespeare Project

This is a six-week, free summer theater program for kids between the ages of 11 and 17, running from July 5, 2012 to August 10, 2012. The Project is run by students from Dartmouth College and consists of rehearsals, textual work, communication exercises, movement, acting training, theater games, vocal training, and theater education. Our summer’s rehearsals will conclude with a performance of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream on August 10! More info here.

Advanced Theater Workshop at Loch Lyme Lodge: Ages: 12-16

August 6th – 10th, 2012, 10:00 AM – 2:00PM (There will be performances Friday evening at 5:00 PM.) $200 per participant. Deadline for applications: July 1

This is an intensive workshop for teens who really love theater! You’ll get to work on writing, collaborating, directing, crewing, and acting. Everyone will write and direct their own very short show, and everyone will act and help out with one another’s shows. More info here.

We regret to announce the passing of David Keane, an active NCCT supporter who most recently performed as the MC for our 35th Anniversary Cabaret in 2008. Our thoughts go out to his family, especially his wife Karen.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2pm on July 8th at the Lyme Congregational Church in Lyme, NH.

Because very few people can devote tons of time and oodles of money to making NCCT work, we need our entire community to come together and help in whatever way they can.

Here are 4 ways you can help:

Consider being a theater angel for Sweeney Todd. (Angels: $25 and under; Silver Angels: $26-$50; Gold Angels: $51-$100; Platinum Angels: Over $100.) Please be sure to include how you would like your name to appear in the playbill, or indicate you would prefer to remain anonymous.

Volunteer at Dairy Days at the Lebanon Coop: We already know you like NCCT, but do you like free ice cream? What about cheese? We need people to man our booth and talk up Sweeney Todd, ETC classes, and our teen program. Margaret Hunton, our production manager for Sweeney Todd, is coordinating our booth and would love some other people to join her for an hour or two. Whether you are an actor, techie, parent, teen, behind the scenes person, or someone who just likes NCCT we’d love to have you! (Even if you’re lactose intolerant.)

Volunteer for Hopfest on the Green in Hanover The Hopkins Center is having its 50th Anniversary and they’ve invited all the Upper Valley arts groups to join in the celebration. There will be live music throughout the day and many other activities. NCCT will have a tent on the Green and we need enthusiastic people to help us promote our mission “to produce quality community theater while providing Upper Valley residents with the opportunity to take part in all aspects of a theatrical production.” Our production of Sweeney Todd is playing that weekend so we especially need people not involved in the performance to help us out.

Volunteer for an hour or the whole day!

Saturday July 21st, 12:00pm – 6:00pm

We can always use an extra set of hands for set building, props, sewing costumes, tech crew, ushering, make up, advertising sales, and the many other activities that come along with putting on a show.

Sweeney Todd Audition Information

Auditions for Sweeney Todd will be held at Dancer’s Corner in White River Junction (93 Pine Street behind Stern’s Produce and the WRJ Coop.)

Audition Dates:

Saturday, April 14th from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Sunday, April 15th from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM

We will be breaking each day into 10 minute time slots. To reserve you time, please email our Stage Manager Linda Neubelt at linda@lyme.com with your preferred day and a time range that works best for you. You will be sent an audition time, and we will do our best to honor your requests. Please arrive at least 10 minutes early to complete an audition form.

Call backs, if necessary, will be held on April 22nd

What to prepare:

Please prepare a contemporary musical theatre piece that shows your range. We ask that all auditions be sung with piano accompaniment, and that you bring sheet music with you. You may be asked to do cold readings from the show on the day of your audition, but there is no need to come with a prepared monologue.
